Samantha Glass
Samantha Glass is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Connecticut and a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Her research examines how sea ice influences the Arctic Ocean’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide. Specifically, her dissertation investigates how physical, biological, and chemical processes in sea ice affect estimates of oceanic CO2 absorption, with a focus on improving our understanding of the rapidly changing Arctic system. Beyond her research, Samantha is committed to bridging science and policy. As a 2025–2026 Aquarium Conservation Partnership Policy Fellow, she developed a project analyzing national aquaculture permitting and presented policy recommendations at Capitol Hill Ocean Week and the Upwell Conference. She currently serves as a Science Policy and Education Intern at Mystic Aquarium, supporting state and federal policy efforts and developing educational materials and interactive activities that connect marine policy and conservation with diverse audiences. She will participate in AGU’s Geosciences Congressional Visits Day in September 2026 and is excited to attend COP31 to further explore the intersection of ocean and Arctic climate science within international climate policy.
