Ryan Engels

Ryan Engels (CLAS ‘27, SPP ‘28) is a senior political science major and participant in the UConn School of Public Policy Fast-Track Program. In his hometown of Westbrook, Ryan serves as a Zoning Commissioner and as Chair of the Sustainability Committee, having been elected to the former in November 2025. Before his election to the Zoning Commission, he became the youngest commissioner in town history at 18 years old, serving on the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission. Throughout these roles, he has sought to be a champion for the local environment, fighting for a more sustainable and resilient future. Additionally, Ryan has worked on various political campaigns; interned across federal, state, and local governments; and led multiple youth organizations. He has long been an advocate for a healthier environment, and hopes to bring new ideas from COP31 to his community.
