GA Zero Waste Coordinator


Mikayla is pursuing her PhD in Engineering Education with a certificate in Sustainable Environmental Planning and Management (NRE). Her research focuses on sustainability education and the social, cultural, and political complexities of renewable energy. She is curious about the different ways people understand and operationalize sustainability.

Born and raised in the Tampa Bay area, Mikayla holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of South Florida. At USF, her favorite classes included those which focused on environmental systems engineering and environmental justice initiatives.

At the Office of Sustainability, Mikayla is committed to moving towards Zero-Waste at UConn. This involves upcycling initiatives such as the Thrift Den and Give and Go, waste management strategies, and educational practices aimed at waste reduction.

Mikayla’s hobbies include hiking, visiting local coffee shops and libraries, and creating pottery at a local art studio. She also loves exploring New England, and experiencing the shifting seasons.
