Sara is a sophomore at UConn Avery Point, majoring in Marine Sciences. She has a background in biotechnology and digital media. She is passionate about social justice, conservation, marine and coastal ecology, and environmental law. She hopes to engage in research in one of these areas of interest. As the founder and President of the Avery Point Thrift Club, she promotes clothing sustainability and raises awareness about textile waste and fast fashion, while striving to assist her community. Sara is heavily involved in student life and holds several positions on campus where she advocates for students. She serves as the Secretary of the Associated Student Government and is a member of the advocacy and programming committees, both focused on addressing the wants and needs of a diverse student body. She organizes initiatives to ensure campus community members feel heard and valued. One of her primary goals is to cultivate future leaders and student mentors while strengthening student participation and awareness. As a peer mentor for the Center for Access and Post-Secondary Success (CAPS), Sara is committed to supporting its mission of assisting students from various backgrounds and promoting educational equity to ensure equal access to higher education for all. She provides resources and opportunities tailored to the individual needs and strengths of her peers to support their growth and educational journeys. Additionally, Sara is an Assistant Graphic Designer for the Activities Department, where she creates visual graphics for campus events and manages social media. Her most recent position is Sustainability Intern for the Office of Sustainability at Avery Point. She is eager to contribute to the Avery Point community by supporting sustainability initiatives and helping to create a more environmentally responsible campus.
