Joshua Smith
Regional Sustainability Intern, Waterbury
Josh Smith is a junior from Plainville, Connecticut pursuing an American Studies degree at the UConn Waterbury campus. Josh is always outside, embracing his natural environment. He loves going to the beach, talking walks on nature trails, traveling to new places to explore, listening to music, and spending time with the special people in his life. From a young age, Josh has always been passionate about environmental issues and sustainability. This interest began early with simple actions: recycling and cleaning up the beaches he visited. This grew into a broader commitment to protecting the planet. In classroom discussions, he often brings awareness to the local and national impacts of climate change, emphasizing how environmental challenges affect communities socially and logistically around the world. Beyond academics, Josh continues to research sustainability trends and looks for meaningful ways to inspire others to take action in their own lives.
In addition to his environmental work, Josh has a deep love for making music: music production and singing for his original music. He often incorporates natural elements (like outdoor sounds, ocean waves, societal ambience, and rainfall noises) into his music production. He uses his musical art as another way to express his appreciation for nature and the environment.
