Faryal Akbar

Sustainability Intern

Faryal is studying Physiology and Neurobiology with minors in Bioinformatics and Molecular and Cell Biology. Her interest for the environment stems from a passion of climate colonialism which highlights the impacts of colonization in the Global South on climate change as well as the intersection between biotechnology and sustainability and promoting educational awareness on proper waste management.

Outside of class, Faryal conducts microbiology research and works at a biotech startup company where she is helping to revolutionize the world of wound healing. She is also part of the Asian American Mentorship Program at UConn and enjoys spending time with her fellow AMP mentors. For her remaining time at UConn, Faryal hopes to get involved in environmental research opportunities as well as community outreach. In the future, Faryal hopes to be part of the biotech industry or pursue higher education in medicine.
