Anna Parker
EcoCaptain and Community Outreach Coordinator
Anna is a UConn graduate with a B.A. in History and a minor in Medieval Studies. She joined the Office of Sustainability (OS) through the national AmeriCorps Program as an EcoCaptain & Community Outreach Coordinator.
Anna’s passion for sustainability stems from her mother, who instilled in her the importance of practicing what you preach. Anna grew up in a household with all efficient appliances, solar panels, and vacations were focused on nature and hiking.
As a student, Anna held various advocacy roles. As an EcoCaptain intern, she focused on fostering community among on-campus residents and organizing events sometimes for 200+ students. She was also involved in the Undergraduate Student Government, serving as an event coordinator for the Academic Affairs Committee and as a senator for her residential area. Her efforts included coordinating Finals Care Fair for over 1,500 students and organizing the academic life panel. During her studies, Anna was passionate about exploring the connection between major historical events and climate change, as well as examining the societal impacts of human-induced climate change.
Now, as a staff member for the OS, Anna is spearheading the launch of a Green Residence Certification program, organizing large-scale litter cleanup events, and overseeing the EcoCaptain internship program—providing 1:1 mentorship and resources for interns. As an AmeriCorps member, she also works on local conservation initiatives, including home energy audits and community education events.
In her free time, Anna enjoys spending time with her three cats, exploring the Willimantic food scene, and has recently taken up yoga. During the summer, she tends to her garden, growing flowers and making ambitious (but often unsuccessful) attempts at cultivating food. She spends as much time as possible at the beach, moonlights as a bartender, and loves hanging out with her friends, Emma and Riley.
