Amanda Stowe is a senior from Newtown, CT majoring in Environmental Sciences and minoring in Climate Science and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. This past summer she worked as a Pathogen Monitoring/Data Processing and Analysis Intern for Harbor Watch at Earthplace in Westport, CT. She worked on a variety of projects, including surveying demersal fish and other invertebrates, collecting water quality data, a macrophyte survey, and pathogen monitoring which involved both field and lab work. This was her second year as an intern for Harbor Watch. She has also previously worked as a Stewardship Intern for the Newtown Forest Association and a field research intern for Global Treks and Adventures on the Big Island, Hawaii. She currently works as a Sustainability Intern at the UConn Office of Sustainability where she helps plan and host campus sustainability engagement events, carry out UConn’s strategic sustainability plans, and research best environmental practices to improve sustainability at UConn. She also works as an ambassador for the UConn College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. She is also the secretary for the UConn chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and on the communications team for the UConn Chapter of Plant Futures. Additionally, Amanda is a recipient of the Co-op Legacy Fellowship Program Change Grant. Amanda and several of her classmates received the grant and installed the rain garden at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. Amanda was also one of the UConn@COP29 Fellows this past year. She attended the United Nations annual Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan where she learned more about the intersections between environmental research and policy as well as gained a global prospective on the climate crisis and how countries can work together to create a more sustainable future.
