Office of Sustainability

Amanda Stowe is a junior from Newtown, CT majoring in Environmental Sciences and minoring in Climate Science and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. This past summer she worked as a Harbor Ecosystems Surveying and River Pathogen Monitoring Intern for  Harbor Watch at Earthplace in Westport, CT. She worked on a variety of projects, including surveying demersal fish and other invertebrates, collecting water quality data, a macrophyte survey, and pathogen monitoring which involved both field and lab work. She has also previously worked as a Stewardship Intern for the Newtown Forest Association and a field research intern for Global Treks and Adventures on the Big  Island, Hawaii. She currently works as a Sustainability Intern at the UConn Office of  Sustainability where she helps plan and host campus sustainability engagement events, carry out UConn’s strategic sustainability plans, and research best environmental practices to improve sustainability at UConn. She is also the secretary for the UConn chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and on the communications team for the UConn Chapter of Plant Futures. This past year, Amanda worked with several other students to apply for a UConn Co-op Legacy Fellowship Program Change Grant. They received the grant and installed the rain garden at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. Attending the COP29 conference, Amanda hopes to learn more about the intersections between environmental research and policy as well as gain a global prospective on the climate crisis and how countries can work together to create a more sustainable future.
