James Hunter

Sustainability Intern

Office of Sustainability

James Hunter is a junior from Lakeside, Connecticut studying Political Science at the University of Connecticut. James loves spending time outside, and hikes, camps and bikes in his free time. He is interested in how government policies and laws shape sustainability efforts. He believes local, state and federal governments have a responsibility to ensure future generations have equitable access to green spaces.

Outside of the Office of Sustainability, James works as a Resident Assistant for Residential Living and Education and as an assistant in the Experimental Anthropology Lab. He has worked with elementary school children in Hartford as part of an independent study to expand access to sustainability education. James worked with Desegregate CT in the spring, where he helped research and develop plans to make Connecticut towns more walkable and transit accessible. He has also been involved with student organizations at UConn, including the Undergraduate Student Government, Outing Club, Fossil Fuel Free UConn and Geography Club. James hopes to pursue a career in government or nonprofits where he can integrate his passion for sustainability advocacy into policy.
